“The Liberator/ El Libertador” pays tribute to Venezuelan military and political leader, Símon Bolívar. Known as the “great liberator” for leading rebel armies, fighting to end Spanish rule, and establishing victory for several South American countries. He is remembered today as being one of South America’s greatest leaders. The quote in the painting describes victory as an art - a craft that must be learned and developed through time and hard work - best learned in defeat.
